I love the look of this electric kettle so I purchased it for my kitchen. I am now debating returning it, because of three things. The base is large, it is easy to lift and use, but takes up more counter space than other electric kettles. Also, I should have realized before purchasing, the outside of the kettle gets HOT. I have a plastic one and it was never a problem, but with this one I would be concerned with things melting onto the side of the kettle. It would be fairly easy to give yourself a light burn, if you weren't prepared. Lastly, there is no signal that the water is ready. Unless you are standing close by and hear the water cease to boil in the kettle you could miss it. I prefer a kettle to ding, or have some other sound to announce that the water is ready, so from the next room you know it is done.The benefits are that it does boil water quickly and keep it warm for quite a while and it looks great. But for features, a slim line, plastic kettle with a signal would be more useful.
