Customer Review: Machine died after 60 days

We bought the Black & Decker DCM2000B Smart Brew 12 Cup coffee maker because we wanted a simple, reliable machine, without the "bells and whistles" to replace our previous B&D machine. The only improvement needed in the design is to make the water level markings level more visible. The carafe was fine; it poured flawlessly, and was truly "no drip". We were quite happy with it for two months.
Then it completely and suddenly died after just 60 days of gentle, once-a-day use. There are a high number of online reviews that report complete failure of the machine after very short periods of time, indicating a real quality control problem with these coffee makers. Since it has such as simple on-off operation, without any sophisticated or complex inner workings, there is really no excuse for this, other than poor design, very cheap parts, shoddy workmanship, or a combination of all three.
We've submitted our Warranty claim to Applica, who market it under the B&D name, and hope they will respond with an immediate replacement that outlasts this defective one.
I'm normally OK with imported products, but I can't help but wonder if a Made in USA equivalent wouldn't outlast this Made in China one? Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware.
So, two stars overall. Four for a good simple machine that made a decent cup of coffee, minus two for breaking down after only 60 days.
