Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus JuicerCustomer Review: Great juicer - fantastic value Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great juicer, considering it's value, it's fantastic. It stands steadily on the counter while juicing any kind of citrus fruit, which it has 2 different size cones for. Other juicers I've tried failed to stand steady which is a major drag. It has 3 settings for pulp, little pulp and no pulp, assembles easily, cleans easily and quickly. It has a self-reversing reamer, that automatically changes direction upon to much pressure applied, and a stirrer, that circles to press down the pulp. This is a GREAT feature! I found myself holding the juicer while squeezing and stirring myself on other machines... wishing I had one more hand. With this B&D product, you'll juice 36 ounces in less than 2 minutes, which is what the container holds, an average of 5 full tumblers of juice. It also juices the fruit effortlessly and efficiently, leaving no flesh in the peal. The only downside I found is that the lid doesn't fit the jug once the strainer unit is removed. You would have to store it with strainer & lid in your fridge or cover it otherwise. Motor runs also steadily and quietly; I can only recommend this product. We use it every 2nd day, even our 2.5 year old daughter loves to juice, and I don't have to worry cause it's made harmlessly safe. 5 major stars!
Customer Review: Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus Juicer Summary: 5 Stars
What a great little juicer! I've been using it daily for about a month.
PROs:
BLACK & DECKER: Always a good bet.
HEADS: It has two different sized heads. A small one for lemons and limes snaps into the strainer. It comes with a larger head that drops over the smaller one for use with oranges (I've also been doing 1/2 a grapefruit with it and it's functioned flawlessly!). The heads are serated at the top to help pull out all the juice.
STRAINER: The strainer consists of two parts. The top part holds the heads and has large slots for the juice to go through. The bottom part snaps under the top part and has three adjustments for the amount of pulp you want to allow through.
MAINTENANCE: Comes apart and cleans easily.
BOWL: is clear so you can see how much you've juiced. Handle is comfortable. Before you can start the motor, the bowl must be securely snapped in place on the base, keeping things from flying around the room. (In my kitchen, that's a big plus.)
CONs: The strainer and heads are made of light-weight plastic that doesn't feel very sturdy. The symbols indicating how much pulp you're letting through partially smeared off. Don't know what caused that.
Customer Review: What a super juicer at a great price Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this juicer since I do use lots of citrus in my cooking and I am always trying new recipes. I have a juicer attachment on my Cuisinart food processor, but the thought of digging out all of the components and putting them together is not on my "top 10" list. I can readily grab the juicer out of the cupboard and quickly juice a lime or orange.
It has a pulp regulator for no pulp or lots of pulp. It is easy to clean and very easy to use. You don't need much pressure to juice your item and the reverse juicing really helps to get all the juice out so you don't miss a drop. The juicer is adjustable for small and larger items and has made cooking even more enjoyable.
Update: April 2009
I still use this juicer about once a week and I have not had one bit of trouble with it and it still juices great.
Update: March 2010
This little juicer is a workhorse. I use it all the time to juice lemons, limes, oranges and more. It still works great, and cleans easily. When and if the motor decides to quit, I will definitely purchase another one.
Customer Review: So far, so good :-) Summary: 4 Stars
After a recent recipe called for juicing almost 20 limes (which I did by hand >.< ) I decided to give a motorized one a try. This model was the only juicer under $20 (I paid retail since Amazon wasn't discounting that day) that had a decent rep and came from a manufacturer I trusted.
It was pretty much plug-in-and-go. I took it out the box and gave it a spin with a couple of lemons. Everything went fabulously, though there was a moment of panic when it completely stopped working. My first thought was the 1-star ratings were right, but it turned out it was merely the circuit breaker. (Apparently it didn't like having the coffee maker, mini-chopper AND juicer all plugged in at the same time.) Threw the switch (unplugged the mini-chopper) and we were back in business.
I've had it for a little less than two months, and it keeps right on chugging away. I don't use it every day, more like two or three times a week. On those occassions it gets a hefty workout. I love that it can juice with or without pulp, without letting seeds through.
Cleanup is simple as it snaps apart, though no throwing it in the dishwasher (rats!).
Customer Review: Ditched a cuisinart, never looked back Summary: 5 Stars
What's in a juicer? It should just work and not require much thought, which is what this one does. I never realized how much hassle the other juicers I've known had caused me until I met this one.
Easy to use (no jamming the fruit down), easy to clean, and never spills. I thought cuisinart had a good brand, but it always wiggled around and ended up spilling, the pulp would pile up and I'd have to clean it mid-way through, the fruit would get slippery. It didn't bother me much, but this one is so much better. With this unit my hands are as dry as when I started, and I get more juice. The two differently-sized reamers are a good idea. So is the hide-the cord base. So is the adjust-to-taste pulp filter. (Read the instructions on how to clean that part: it's easy, but if you don't see the trick it's better to read the page).
3 solid innovations in a citrus juicer: and all I wanted was to replace my broken cuisinart. If it had a glass pitcher and a little chrome, it would go for $80. As it is, I've never had a better citrus juicer. If this one breaks, I'd buy another.
