I read all the reviews for this model and decided to give it a try. At $14.00, it wasn't a big investment. I bought it because it could make a small quantity of rice, and it could cook brown rice. However, my first use was with the max amount ("3 measures") of Texmati (basmati) rice. I incorporated some of the suggestions I read in the reviews. First, I placed the cooker on a terrycloth towel. The measuring cup that came with the unit did not look like the one pictured in the manual. It had no markings on it except a grooved line about 1/4 inch down from the top. Since I read it was suppose to measure 2/3 cup, I did use my own measuring cup to confirm. Two-thirds of a cup filled it to that line, not the top. I carefully measured "3 measures" of rice , dumped the rice in the cooker, and THEN filled it with water to the 3 cups line inside the cooking pot. That's what the directions say to do and it would make a difference in the amount of water if you did these steps in reverse. Turned it on and then checked it at 20 minutes. The water was boiling and it was sputtering through the vent hole in the lid. The rice/water mixture was foaming and getting very close to the top of the pot. Based on a review suggestion, I gave the mixture a quick stir. That immediately stopped the sputtering and foaming and the cooking process continued uneventfully until it finished cooking and automatically switched to Warm. Again based on a suggestion, I unplugged the cooker and waited the 15 minutes (actually 20 minutes) before I served it. The rice was firm but cooked and slightly brown on the very bottom but still usable. Tasted good! I got 7 servings, each covering 2/3 of a dinner plate when rice was "flattened out."
I cleaned the cooking pot by hand (extremely easy to clean) and put the glass lid in the dishwasher with no problems.
After one use, I like it!
