Customer Review: Holds heat well, great for encaustic painting

These cups are solid black cast iron with a black ceramic coating on the inside. They have a very pleasing pebble finish reminiscent of many oriental designs. I bought these for melting encaustic paints and they work very well as they hold the heat much longer than aluminum tins. When they get hot I can hold the cup close to the painting surface and the hot cups keep my paint liquid for long periods. In this way I can apply paint quite quickly without paint cooling on my brush. I am sure they are great for drinking tea as well for the same reason (that is, they hold heat well).
