Bialetti 4-Piece Pizza Stone Set

I previously owned one of these sets until my college-aged daughter decided she needed it! I remember "robbing" stuff from my parents kitchen too, so how could I complain? Anyway, I decided to replace it through AMAZON and boy am I glad I did. The set was reasonably priced and included a new peel, a pizza cutter, the stone and a rack. Yes, the stone is thin by some cooks' standards. But, the old one lasted for many years and with reasonable care I expect this one will too. It creates a nice crispy crust and can be used to serve as well as to bake on. My only complaint is that the peel had a cracked handle upon arrival. But AMAZON promptly replaced it within 3-days! Return of the defective one was easy with a printer-friendly mailing label and it was FREE to ship back. This set and AMAZON rock!

Customer Review: Decent pizza stone set for an excellent price
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a very solid pizza set for the money. The stone, peel and cutter all work exactly as you'd expect and the pizza we've made on this thing has been absolutely delicious. I can't state enough how much more fun, healthy and delicious this home made pizza has been, so I absolutely love this purchase. I only have two very minor complaints:

1. You aren't supposed to wash pizza stones with soap or detergent (otherwise they absorb the soapy flavor), so it is a bit hard to clean and grease stains slowly accumulate on it. I guess this is normal for pizza stones though, so I'll just need to get used to it.

2. The pizza tends to stick to the peel and not slide off too easily, even with a lot of corn meal in between. I don't know if this is actually the fault of the peel, the corn meal, or the type of (store made) dough we use, but we always have to struggle a bit to get the pizza from the peel onto the stone.

Customer Review: Yeah, it's bad

Here's what I did first day I got this: Put the stone on the lowest rack of my cold oven, then set the oven to 550, and let it fully heat up for 30 minutes. I used the peal that comes with the set, which is not really large enough to hold a good size pizza. So I get the first pizza into the oven, let it bake for 5 minutes, pizza is looking good! I open the oven to check the crust - CRACK! Well, the crack doesn't seem to effect it's ability to bake pizza. I baked a second pizza just after the first, they both came out fine. On top of which, the stone got really burnt, and I doubt I'll ever get it clean, leaving me to worry it will impart a burnt taste to whateve gets baked in there now

The small peal is a bit of a pain - but cracking on the very first use - even if it is still quite usable - is ridiculous.

The product I bought was cheap - and I got what I paid for...

Customer Review: It lacks durability.

This pizza stone was a permanant fixture in our oven for about 2 weeks. It turned out some great bread, but it couldn't stand up to a lot and a cast iron pan set on top of it cracked it. On the other hand, it does have a 5 year warranty. And don't expect a perfect baking peel; if you make a lot of bread, you will soon need a replacement. It's thick and kind of sticky, and mine had a respectable crack in it straight out of the box. I'm afraid I can't exactly say how it fares with pizza (I know, I know) but it's not effective at all for bread. However, if you're just buying it to make pizza, for all I know, it may work perfectly.

Customer Review: Bad peel
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this Pizza Stone set for my wife. We followed all the instructions concerning the stone. My wife made 4 pizzas for dinner and the first couple came out of the oven just great. While the last pizza was being removed from the oven the peel broke causing the pizza to fall on the floor. I don't know what kind of wood it was made out of but I can tell you that it was a piece of crap! I am going to try to glue it back together but my wife doesn't want to use it again and I can't blame her.

The stone works great but I am already looking for a bigger stone and another peal.
