Customer Review: Fun kit for starters, but don't expect miracles

I picked this kit up at Target and recognized some of the pieces from when I took a cake decorating class a few years ago. The stencils and the 3 profile icing knife, plus the storage case make the set worth the money spent. I liked the icing bag... it didn't make a huge mess all over the counter when I squeezed it, but it took a little longer to fill since I had to coordinate holding the top ring in place and spooning in the icing.
I don't know how easy it is to buy refill bags... the bags that come with this aren't the kind you normally see in the decorating aisle, but you could get away with using a regular plastic storage bag with the unique tip this uses.
My only real complaint is that the stencils aren't very sturdy... one cracked in half the first time I used it. Also, the commercial says that you can decorate cakes like a pro... there are other factors involved in that process... if your icing is too runny or your cake is too crumbly, your cake isn't going to be a masterpiece the first time. Still, I think that's my fault (not Betty Crocker's).

I have had cake decorating classes before and for that I purchased Wilton's kit, which is the best. My daughter loved the betty crocker's after watching it on TV. I bought it so we can decorate together with a newer kit. The best feature of this set is the BOX!! Nothing else!! As some buyers mentioned, it is just plastic junk. The worst part is the large funnel tube which needs a lot of frosting that you can never push out. The bags break with every squeeze. At the end, I gave up leaving a ton of mess and went back to my good old kit that never failed me. What is terrible is that they made the funnel such a size which never fits another tip but its own. The plastic tips don't allow frosting to come out unless it is as soft as whipped cream, now how would I do my roses with such consistency?? But at least I got a plastic box to keep my other decorating tips in and nice stencil letters, other than that, I wouldn't spend $3 for it.Customer Review: Waste of Money

This was horrible. I purchased this at Target in hopes to make birthday cakes for our small get togethers and what not and this was just junk! It was messy, the bag ripped, the "stencil" just took the icing right off along with some of the cake and left NO outline of what I was suspposed to be able to fill in with colored icing. I followed the directions to a tee for their icing and it was just horrible. I ended up wasing a ton of icing from trying to put it in the bag and taking it off of the cake. I finally gave up and threw it in the trash and had to patch up the cake with the extra icing we had left over. So we ended up having a birthday cake with no writing and just candles. Next time I will just order it or buy those nasty letters you stick on and throw those out. It would have been much cheaper!Customer Review: Creates cute cakes, you need patience.

When I bought this from their official website it looks really cute on the video and their cakes look like something from a local mom&pop bakery. But when you actually use it for the first time you need patience; especially for beginning cake decorators like myself. But after a couple of uses I created really cute cakes and cupcakes and my cupcakes are the center of the holiday parties at my home. So do I recommend this? Yes, especially if you want to save money. But you need patience! And I tried doing the flowers but they didn't work so...that's one of the only downsides.Customer Review: Cake Decorating Kit

I love this little kit so very much! Its wonderfull to use it for a "fancy" special occasion cake, or for an anyday cake. The frosting liners can be replaced easly by using simple baby bottle liners, no special ordering! The pieces come clean very easily, and are simple and fun to switch back and forth. Also...for the holidays just add a little color to some whipped cream, put it in the frosting bag with a nice tip and vola' spices up any pie to look elegant and festive!
