Customer Review: Not what I expected

I received this product as a gift. Thankfully, I didn't have to spend any of my own money for this machine. I have to admit, the lure of creating your own "baked" donut is very intriguing. However, the unevenness of the heating element deters from perfect donuts every time. I have learned through my first batch of mix, which yielded approximately 70 donuts, that the heating elements do not heat the top as evenly as the bottom. It is actually hotter on the bottom plate therefore causing your donut to be too done (sometimes burnt) if you aren't paying attention. The top doesn't get hot at all which defeats the purpose of closing the contraption to bake perfectly puffed donuts. The only way that I have been able to get semi-perfect donuts is by turning the machine upside down in order for the top to not touch the donut until it has puffed up and risen. This makes a "better" donut but still not perfect. If I have to go through the hassle of flipping the appliance over, then it really isn't what I'm looking for. Also, don't refer to the insert that they give for "donut recipes". I usually just stick with a cake mix or muffin mix. Anyway, away this machine goes until I have a garage sale. It's too bad because the donuts are really the perfect sized donut.
