Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream ScoopCustomer Review: The Best Ice Cream Scooper - From the Pros Summary: 5 Stars
As a former B&R worker, I can attest that this is the same scooper used in the stores, and after years of trying different types of scoopers, I finally found them available for purchase! At the time I worked there, there were 3 sizes - This is the small or "junior" size - perfect for home use. The scooper should be briefly rinsed and tapped dry (a little "tap-tap" on a sponge is best) after each swipe at the ice cream to guarentee perfect scoops, but if you're not in the ice cream business, a sloppy scoop is fun too. Of course the _biggest_ factor is ice cream temperature - not too hard, not too soft.If this product is in-fact steel, it should be dishwasher safe, although it bears mentioning that the original B&R scoopers were aluminum, and like all aluminum, are not suitable for dishwasher or corrosive chemical cleaning!! For those who have commented about "residue" and pitting, you must care for aluminum products with a good scrubbing, and again, no use of corrosive cleaning techniques such as dishwashers. If you have a "ruined" aluminum scooper, you might try scrubbing it hard with a green scotch-brite pad - this may reveal virgin aluminum, depending on how far gone it is. Care of the scooper is easy - just rinse with water and wipe dry!
Description of Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream ScoopWith a push button to gently break the vacuum inside the bowl, this tool forms perfect, 2-inch-diameter scoops of ice cream and releases them in a jiffy--just like those dished up by the pros at Baskin-Robbins. The push button is spring loaded so it releases ice cream and then snaps back into place for the next scoop. The index finger operates the push button, which is easy to use even for children. Made of steel, the scoop is 8 inches long and carries a five-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
