Back To Basics Apple and Potato Peeler

The last time I peeled an apple for my husband I about cut off my finger, and stated I am never peeling another apple for anyone over 3 years old again.

I bought this peeler AND corer for my husband and it works! It's heavy duty cast iron, and has a strong suction grip to the counter (no scratching the surfaces with clamps). It's quick, and fun. It's easy to clean. My grandkids and I have made 2 pies, and 4 brown bettys and many, many apple snacks since we've had it.

I am not having as much luck with the potatoes.

But it is certainly a worthy tool for the kitchen, and I am not a gadget person. It is made exceptionally well and should last many years. It makes for quick work, and the curly slices go over well with young ones.

I guess the best testimonial is this: I hadn't made an apple pie in 15 years until we got this gadget!

Customer Review: Must have for anyone with braces!
Summary: 5 Stars

I used mine for the first time tonight and was amazed at how well it works. It has a little bit of a learning curve...basically it takes an apple or two to figure out you just have to let the gadget do it's thing without trying to force anything. In a matter of seconds you have a peeled, cored, slices apple. I had braces put on my teeth about a year and a half ago. I haven't really eaten many apples since biting into something fleshy is uncomfortable and generally means that I'll be pickin' stuff out my "grill" for the next two hours. This little gizmo makes it so I can be lazy AND still eat apples! Score! Oh yeah, it only took 15 minutes to figure out how it worked and prep 8 apples for a pie tonight. The pie cooked way more evenly since all of the apple pies were uniform in size. Can't say enough great things. I wouldn't necessarily buy it on Amazon though. I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $19.99 + tax...but no shipping so it's still cheaper.

Customer Review: Great peeler and spiral slicer
Summary: 5 Stars

These are sold under a number of names and different prices . The one I have has the clamp and the suction cup both but I don't really use the clamp . They work great and you can get replacement cutters if needed (I haven't needed one after three years though) . It spiral slices the apple, while while peeling and coreing it, or you can drop the blade to the side and peel only . Want spiral French Frys it will do it but you will have a core that has to be hand sliced or long sliced with another cutter . Beats paying $200 + for a hand cranked spiral French Fry slicer though . The only problem I have had is if the apple is too ripe and soft then the center prongs can twist out . I also have a small electric peeler for Apples, Potatoes, etc but it won't core or spiral slice so I then use this when I want to do that . I love this thing and for an old hard to please guy that's saying a lot .

Customer Review: This Review Should help
Summary: 4 Stars

I recieved my apple and potato peeler in good condition and on time. My first time using the Peeler I used it for apples and discovered a few things that might help others who have bought this and or considering to buy it. Medium or Small sized apples work the best on this peeler. Do a test run on one apple to see if you need to adjust the peeling blade or the angle of the apple, make sure the apple is aligned so it does not wobble while turning as this will affect the spiral cutting and cause it to push the core thru the apple without a spiral cut. after working out the adjustments I discovered one other thing if you turn the apple too slow it will also cause the apple to core without peeling or cutting turn the crank at a decent speed as to avoid this from happening as often. I have not had the chance to use it for potato's an update will be forth coming.

Customer Review: Wonderful item
Summary: 5 Stars

A couple of years ago, we have started canning various items. Last year we turned to fruit. Peeling and coring by hand last year was tedious. All of that came back to me this year, as we began the process anew. Thinking there had to be a better way, I went online and began exploring the alternatives. I found that this peeler/corer had generally excellent reviews and I decided to give it a try. For our purposes, it worked wonderfully. It is a well-designed and manufactured item. Then, a couple of weeks ago, we decided to help out a 4-H club in the Virginia Piedmont in their annual making of apple butter. When we got there, I noticed that they were using 8 of these items and found them to be excellent in peeling and coring the 50 bushels of apples that went into the apple butter. So, they are multi-year kid-tested, as well.
