Customer Review: Durable & sharp but not versatile enough because slices are too thin

I bought this after reading the huge number of rave reviews for the small Benriner, and some of those reviews said "buy the large one!" This is durable and amazingly good at what it does. But I'm disappointed with this for the price because the slices are only 1/8" thick when adjusted to maximum depth; I'd use this much more often if it could make thicker slices.
+ Starting with what is positive, it does what it does perfectly. It EASILY SLICES carrots or onions or apples or celery or zucchini or an orange with the skin on ... any vegetable/fruit less than 3-3/4 inches wide.
+ The TOOTHED BLADE works to cut matchsticks out of carrots or, one of my favorite uses--making "spaghetti" out of summer zucchini (although I think there are better products for vegetable "spaghetti"), anything that you can push through the toothed blade.
+ It seems very DURABLE to me and replacement blades seem readily available. I wouldn't use the word "flimsy" to describe any aspect of this, except for the toothed blades which flex a little when you are pushing hard to get a carrot through--but even so the blades don't break.
- My main complaint is that the largest slice you can make with the adjustable depth blade is only a little larger than an eighth inch. The thickness is right for slicing carrots and zucchini to sauté in butter, but too thin for potato uses. 1/8" is really thin. I'll concede that competing products which cut thicker slices are more like $100, but I wish I hadn't spent nearly $50 on this when it is so limited.
- I've seen safer products. You MUST be willing to throw away the last two slices of your carrot or whatever.
- Adjusting the blade depth is almost painful without pliers. It is so thin at max, I rarely adjust, but I think many people would need pliers to turn the screws to adjust the blade depth.
At nearly $50 this isn't cheap. Because the slices are so thin, it is a bit of a one-trick pony for me. I want to give three stars because it is perfect for cutting slices of carrot, etc. But I can cut slices of carrot like that on the back side of my box grater. TWO STARS. For this much money, I want more versatility.
