Customer Review: Useful and rather pretty

If I had my druthers, all my decorative touches such as the Arthur Court Grape Catch-All Coupe Tray (9.5 inches) would be made of sterling silver or really good plate -- but who can afford that? This is the first modern piece of cast aluminum I have ever owned, though, and I like it much better than pewter for its unique aluminum shininess that will never tarnish, and for the reassuring "heft" and weight of the piece. No pitting or antiquey graininess as so often happens with pewter and the related modern alloys, or with the increasingly popular mercury glass.
I had intended it for keys and pocket change near the bed but find that it works best holding outgoing mail on the cabinet in the entry foyer. Business envelopes will overhang just a little but that's not a problem for me. Esthetically, this tray isn't quite as detailed as I had hoped but it is pretty in an Art Nouveau-derived kind of way. And really, it is comforting to know that no matter how long I keep it, it won't tarnish or get yucky, which can be a challenge here in Chicago with silverplate or silver and our polluted air. And the price is right.
Arthur Court the maker of such items has many, many style lines -- I was surprised how many I found while shopping for this Catch-All Coupe Tray. The Grape motif alone seems particularly rich in items, including a water pitcher, chip-and-dip tray, segmented tray -- even measuring spoons! I also count it a plus that this object is vended directly from Amazon, not a third-party knick-knackery or gift shop. Therefore it contributes to the SuperSaver waiver of shipping fee.
