Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Aroma Housewares AST-900E AeroMatic Convection OvenCustomer Review: Not as good as I expected Summary: 3 Stars
I am doing a lot of baking lately and decided to get a convection oven so I don't have to turn the large oven on every day in the summer heat. After reading the reviews and checking out interior dimensions of the countertop ovens out there I decided to go with the Aroma turbo oven. I got mine last Friday and a whole chicken just waited for the package to arrive marinating for a full day. I followed the instructions (10 min for every pound at 400F) and the top of the chicken came out wonderful, but the bottom was still raw. No big deal! Turned the chicken over and put it back to roast for 10 min/pound at 400F again. It turned out to be very nice, but the inside was raw, bloody bones here and there. So, I had to cut the chicken in half and put it back for an additional 15 more minutes to get the inside done right too. This was my first trial. Then the next day I went for baking cinnamon rolls, and that was a total mess. While the rolls on the top were done the bottom halves were raw. Had to turn them over and bake them again. They came out OK, but have no commercial look for sure. So, for the bread yesterday I went back to the regular oven and baked it there, as it is obvious to me that the fan does not circulate enough the air in the container to get the bottom done too. I just wonder if anyone else is having this problem, or I just got a faulty unit?
Customer Review: Aroma 910DX.... buying a second one :) 900E Summary: 5 Stars
I just placed an order for the AROMA AST-900E. I had my 900DX for six years and worked wonderfully until the temperature gauge jammed on me and would not come off or turn. First off as a single person the Aroma oven is a HUGE MONEY SAVER. I told my landlord to take my regular stove out because I did not need it any more. The 900DX worked wonderfully, it still does just would not cook anything outside 350 degrees. With baking goods yes the bottom does not brown but once you turn the food upside down the oven does it. With Pizzas what I do is first cook it in the Aroma then brown the bottom on the non stick frying pan and get the same results as a wood burn oven. One has to experiment with cooking times and temperature. I even use the Aroma lid to cook things inside a frying pan to have heat from the top. If you add water to the Aroma bowl under the container you are cooking in, you get THE BEST cooking effect ever. It is amazing for Bain Marie recipes. Cleaning is a breeze too. The best part is that because the Aroma is a counter top appliance you can check it without having to bend etc. I am really looking forward to receiving the 900E model. I don't consider this oven noisy although every person has their own level of tolerance to sound. The cord never gave me any issues like melting etc., although the part near the unit does become warm.
Customer Review: Aroma Oven AST-900E --a very useful oven Summary: 4 Stars
I've had an Aroma Oven for years. In fact, it's so old, it came with a metal pot rather than a glass bowl. I've used my oven for cooking everything imaginable, from reheating pizza to roasting gingered duck. Everything turns out well. In addition, the oven requires no pre-heating, and saves energy and time over a conventional oven. In summer, it's especially nice not to heat the kitchen up using the large conventional oven by simply using this small table-top unit instead.
My old model's handles (on metal pot and top) had become cracked, so I decided to buy a new Aroma oven. Thats the only reason I bought a new one. This new one is a fine unit, except for the racks and steaming tray, which are flimsy and the tray is too small. My old unit came with a sturdy lower rack, two sturdy upper racks, and a sturdy 11 1/2" aluminum lipped tray pierced with many holes which were very functional. I will continue to use these and discard the new ones.
If it were not for these new racks and tray, I would give my new Aroma oven a 5 star rating instead of a 4 star.
Customer Review: Timer & ON switch broke immediately Summary: 1 Stars
After LOTS of net research, decided this was best option for our college son to use in dorm. When it arrived, we were pleased at the heavy duty glass--though surprised at how large it was. So per instructions (YES, for a change, we actually read the instructions!), we cleaned the bowl, set the timer and turned on the "oven" for its first maiden test (empty) as instructed by the booklet. The "oven" turned on and started to heat, but then immediately shut off BEFORE the test cooking time had elapsed. So we started over--reset the controls and turned it on again: ran 5 seconds and turned itself off. Same result again and again. And believe me, we were following instructions exactly. So obviously, there is some defect in the timer/"on" switch mechanism, as reported by others too. So we went online to Amazon and filed for return of defective merch. Amazon was truly amazing--within a couple days, they had refunded our full amount! Just wish we could find a great small "convection" oven for our son to use in dorm room :(
Customer Review: Aroma Convection Oven Summary: 5 Stars
The price was right. It arrived within the stated time frame. The physical condition was excellent because it was packed professionally.
I had wrestled with two other used convection ovens bought online and was solely disappointed. The sellers lied in their descriptions so I hesitatingly bought this time. The other ovens (Nu-Wave and Flavor Wave) were poorly designed to last only a year or two under constant use. Most all these Chinese manufactured ovens sell to the dealer for around $30 in lots of 500. The dealer sells them for $350 or more and will not repair them or even carry repair parts.
Being an electrical engineer, I can easily evaluate and repair appliances.
The Aroma Oven is manufactured in Taiwan, which looks sturdier with higher grade plastic, and a glass oven bowl rather than plastic, which quickly deteriorates at high temperatures. Others say the 'Aroma' lasts 7 to 9 years.
