This is annoying long, I apologize, but please read befor buying. I got this as a christmas gift when my last Breadman died after 2 uses. It actually started to smoke. Apparently the element inside the machine arcked and burned a hole through the casing. Thank God I was in the kitchen at the time it happened. My second one, Breadman Ultimate Plus Model# TR2500BC, worked fine for about 9 mos. with an average use of 2x/month. Yesterday the motor just stopped working. I wanted to take it apart to see if a caraway seed or something had gotten stuck inside the machine (the little trap door where the 'extras' like seeds go leaks into the machine before the ingredients are ready to be added). I couldn't get the casing off because the manufacturer had stripped some of the screws. Two of the screws on the bottom I didn't have the tool to remove. They were conveniently not your typical Phillips or Flat head screw. I do not recommend this item for purchase, especially as a gift. It costs about $100, but works like it cost $20.
I also tried to make Jam in this machine. It does not cook the fruit long enough for it to coagualte the way it should. My jams were too thin after refrigerating them for 2 days. You could pour them on, so I had to cook them stove-top to make it work. Don't waste your money and don't embarass yourself by giving this doozie as a gift.
Lastly, I agree with a previous review. The ingredients are not mixed properly. In my opinion, the paddle should be much larger and it should lock in place. On occasion, the paddle would come loose and I would have to stop the machine, remove the dough (cooling it so the yeast was a little deactivated, not a good thing), put the paddle back on after rinsing the dough out from the hole and peg, and put the ingredients back in praying I could get bread in time for dinner.
