Customer Review: Caught on fire!

This splatter screen actually CAUGHT ON FIRE when I used it for the first time. And yes, I washed it and rinsed it thoroughly before using it. I was frying up some fish and got out the splatter screen to prevent, well, splatter. Within seconds the screen was smoking and turning brown and then it CAUGHT ON FIRE. I have no explanation. I was using an All-Clad pan to fry 3 filets of flounder in 2T of olive oil. Why this combination caused the screen to CATCH ON FIRE is beyond me. It was a frightening and disturbing development. Nothing in the pan itself was on fire--in fact, the fish was still raw. Needless to say, I do not recommend this product and will be returning it and seeking a refund.
Note: Like many others here, I bought this screen based on the high Cooks Illustrated ranking. No clue why my screen was so defective, but the screen I received was a terrible product.
