Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of All-Clad LTD 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille PanCustomer Review: Best Pan I Own! Summary: 5 Stars
...and I own lots of them. Started getting more heavily into cooking a year or so ago, and have been adding sets and pieces as I go. He11, I never do anything half way! Anyhow, I have Calaphon non-stick pieces, an Anolon anodized aluminum non-stick set (great set), and Cuisinart Classic stainless...another great set. Also bought Emerilware through another on line retailer, which I won't mention...but it rhymes with CutleryandMore. Without going into too much detail, they suck, and the Emerilware is just as bad. Working with All-Clad now to get some MC2 pieces in exchange. Trust me here: All-Clad is one very classy outfit!
So back to the grill pan. First, I can't believe the price....$49! Folks, that's a steal. Whoever said this isn't really non-stick is daft...nothing sticks to it. Most importantly, it's easy to cook with, and the food comes out great. Of all the pieces I own...way too many, given my limited talents...this is easily the best. Just try one steak or chop on it, and you'll see exactly what I mean. Food comes out juicy, tender and seared on the outside just like it should be.
I must sound like a shill for the product, but I assure you I'm not. Just read some of my negative reviews. Anyway, if you're even just "thinking" about buying this pan, hurry up and get it. No idea how All-Clad can make and sell this so cheaply, but sooner or later the price HAS to increase. So buy it now. It's one terrific pan. And by the way: clean up is a snap!
Customer Review: This is not a good grill pan Summary: 2 Stars
I feel that I am committing a mortal sin by saying that an All-Clad pan is not a good pan, but this one is not. Most people believe that All-Clad is exceptional cookware and I agree for the most part. This pan, however, is simply not a good or even average grill pan.
A grill pan is supposed to approximate the flavor and markings achieved by using a good charcoal/gas grill or an open flame of hardwood. The flavor is achieved by having sharp edged grill strips separated relatively deep valleys. Over a hot flame, the valleys allow the drippings to burn and emit smoke. This pan has very flat grill strips and extremely shallow valleys. The result is no smoke flavor and no grill marks.
The other failing of this pan is its light weight. The pan comes up to temperature quickly, but when you throw in two or three 1 & 1/2 pound ribeyes, it quickly cools off. This s a pure aluminum pan and as a result is light weight has little reserved heat when the steaks hit. The result is steaks that have been sautted rather than grilled. You do not have the deep, rich crust that you expect from a good steakhouse.
If you want to grill indoors - then get a heavy pan that can leave clear grill marks. Based on my experience, I can recommend Lodge or LeCruest.
Customer Review: Very, very good grill pan!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This grille pan really deserves all 5 stars. It is the best non-stick I ever had (I have Circulon grill pan, it is very good and I am happy with it but it is very shallow - almost flat, and I wanted one with higher sides).
I regularly use it for steaks, burgers, chicken, salmon and vegetables. It is large enough for 2 good size steaks with enough room left on the pan when you flip them - on a clean side for fresh grill marks. Steaks come out amazingly good - and so does everything else. Burgers - you can easily fit 4 large burgers with room to spare. Again - the pan heats up very well and leaves nice, dark grill marks on your food.
Marinated chicken breast - the best. I throw some red onions, mushrooms and peppers on the pan after taking meet out - the best. Salmon is done in minutes with no added fat.
I usually don't get this excited about pans, but I highly recommend this one. I am not an extra careful with my pots and pans, they get daily use - that's what they are for. This grill is sturdy, washing it is effortless - if you have water hot enough, you don't even need soap. I also like the feel of All-Clad handles.
Oh - did I mansion I like this pan???
Customer Review: As important to a single guy as condom . . .ents Summary: 5 Stars
I am recently single again (after 18 years) and had to start over with my kitchen. After a few weeks, I felt this empty place in my stomach -- and realized it was the lack of my grill that was causing it! I do not have a balcony, and can only impose on my friends with houses so much, so I needed a solution that would allow me to grill meat (steaks, chicken, burgers) without a grill. After some research, I settled on this pan as the best option for indoor grilling -- and it is perfect! I have cooked burgers a couple of times, and even grilled up an Omaha Steaks NY Strip for lunch (used a great spicy rub and tossed it on the very hot pan -- it turned out great! I had also bought a "bag of salad" and added some Newman's Own Low-fat dressing, and washed it down with a beer for a fully "balanced" meal). The pan does not "wipe" clean as I had hoped from a non-stick -- but it is still very easy to clean up. The pan is very heavy and solidly constructed, lays flat on the stove top and heats evenly. This price is a steal! An absolute must for single guys -- or anyone who enjoys grilled food but does not have a grill.
Customer Review: Best I have used, but still not perfect. Summary: 4 Stars
I have used several different Grille Pans over the years and was happily surprised by the performance of All-Clads version. The non-stick coating works better than most, but is still not perfect. Countless times I have sat at the sink scrubbing for greater than 5 minutes to get the juices from a steak off the pan. The problem is getting between the grill bumps. They are rounded, which makes it easier to get to, but along the axis of the bumps themselves, it is extremely difficult with any sponge. My only help has been to put dawn into the pan while still very hot, and then fill with water to soak it as it cools. That usually has knocked down cleaning to 2-3 minutes.
On the positive side, this pan has delivered salmon, steaks, burgers, kabobs, ... you name it - to a quality that I would expect from an actual grill. The grill bumps will sear exactly the same as any grill I have used - often leaving visitors wondering where I had my grill. If you want a grill pan, this is certainly the best. Just remember, that it takes much more effort to clean than an actual grill.
