Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of All-Clad 5112 Stainless 12-Inch Fry PanCustomer Review: Excellent pan, excellent line. Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this pan for several years now, along with many other All-Clad pans. I love them. Pricy yes, but once you buy them you never have to replace them, which makes them comparatively cheap! (in price only, not in quality)
While this pan won't work just like a nonstick pan, it does cook evenly and foods (even eggs and pancakes) won't stick if you follow the basic rule.
First, heat the pan. After the pan has come up to temperature you can add the oil. Only add the food after the oil has heated.
Before I gave in and bought the expensive All-Clad pans, I was going through a set of pans every few years or so. I know for sure that I have bought the last set of cookware I will ever need. That is a wonderfull feeling!
If you are hesitant to spend the price for All-Clad stainless, think back over the last 10 or 15 years. Add up what you have paid for all the pans you had to keep replacing!
Customer Review: Great pan Summary: 5 Stars
This pan is great, easy to cook with, very even heating, and very light for its size compared to cast iron, solid steel, or copper bottom pans.It seems a little pricey, but once you cook with it a while, you realize why it is so good. Metal handles help when doing oven pan roasting -- they don't melt like plastic ones do, but still stay cool on the stove top -- unlike some other brands metal handles. You get a good fond with it, so you have lots of good stuff left for making gravies and pan sauces with. No non-stick stuff to flake off. Metal handles are rivoted on, so they don't fall off like those cheap bolted on plastic ones (anything by Faberware) or the welded on metal ones. The only caution is don't cook things like eggs and pancakes in it -- they stick like crazy no matter how much oil you use..... buy a non-stick pan for that sort of stuff.
Customer Review: Excellent pan Summary: 5 Stars
This pan is worth the money. I have always used only nonstick pans before and I got so tired of replacing my pans after 5 years. I was worried that food would stick, but it doesn't. You just have to follow the manufacturer's directions and let the pan preheat before adding food. There is a lifetime warranty on this pan and I cannot imagine having to replace it. It is awesome. I use Barkeeper's Friend and it shines it up to look like new after each use. The only thing I don't like about this pan is the handle. It is very uncomfortable, and I don't know why All Clad would have designed such a great pan and then failed miserably on their handle. It is an inconvenience, but one I am willing to put up with for the quality of the rest of the pan. I do plan on buying more All Clad, but I wish their handles were more comfortable.
Customer Review: Incredible pan - Amazon has 51125 with lid at a better price! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this in Dec. '09 with the lid for about $90. Amazon still has it available here: All-Clad 51125 All Clad Stainless-Steel 12-Inch Fry Pan with Lid. The item number is 51125 - but looking at the specs, I don't see any difference.
This is a beautiful pan, well-worth the price. Ours is used almost daily and still looks new. We recently managed to get a lovely golden crisp on tofu using this pan. If you've tried frying tofu, you know how hard it is to do that.
We use Bar Keepers friend for tough cleaning, but we often don't need it. The pan cleans up easily.
Highly recommend! The only downside is it makes me want more All Clad cookware than I can afford.
Customer Review: If you fry it, it WILL stick Summary: 1 Stars
I am simply amazed that anyone can be satisfied with this pan. I bought this pan last week. I fried bacon it on medium heat (as advised by salesperson). Bacon stuck. Fried eggs on medium heat. Eggs stuck. Ok, must be my fault--try low heat. I fried bacon on low heat. Bacon stuck. Fried eggs on low heat. Eggs stuck. Pan would not come clean with hand washing and mild soap (as the instructions advise). I promptly returned the pan and got a non-stick. My life is much better. Do NOT be fooled by the pan's good looks. Think its just me? My wife's sister bought the same pan. Her report: everything sticks. My sister has the pan. She hates it! Guess what? Everything sticks. How can a product be so popular and perform so aweful? You are hereby on notice.
