Customer Review: This is an almost-excellent product

I love hot drinks in the winter, and especially if I have a sore throat or cold. The big problem is that they don't stay hot long if you use a mug. I have a thermos (or 2) and the big issue there is that you have to heat in one container and pour into the other. I've been buying those Campbell 10oz soups you microwave and drink---higher in salt and calories than the soups I like but, hey, when you're sick, it's easy. When they say don't reheat in them, they mean it---this week I had 10oz of my healthy soup all over my microwave. And that prompted me to search for this item
First, I thought it would feel cheap like those double-walled mugs you get at Wal-mart. No, it immediately felt thick. I thought it would look cheap, but it actually is not one solid green plastic surface---it has some glossy ribbons around the top and bottom which I happen to like.
The big thing is that you can put it right in the microwave. I want to sit at my desk or watch a movie and have hot tea, hot lemonade, hot chocolate, hot soup etc and I want more than 10oz, I want it to not have the Campbell soup mark-up (I paid over $2 for one of those), I want it to be reusable, to stay hot for hours, to go in the microwave and dishwasher---> this is ALMOST the product.
I read that other people did not like it because it leaked. For the sake of this review I turned it over and it does leak from the hole in the top. It does not leak from the screw-on cap, which means you have to lay it at an angle to get the liquid to the hole in the top. There's a cover for that hole, but it is not leakproof. I don't think this is an issue unless you want to throw it into a purse or backpack or give it to a child---if so, this is not the right mug for you. But if you want to sit it on your desk, it is not an issue.
Here's the thing, I tested it and even with piping hot soup and not opening it, the soup will be warm/hot in a half hour. In an hour, it will be warm ick---not something I would want. This was truly disappointing, because it is definitely not something you could take with you to have later. However, if you just want to keep your drink hot at your desk for a half hour or in your car for the same amount of time, then it's great. And when you get to wherever you are going, you can always pop it back into the microwave.
I like the mug, I would buy it again. I would like it a LOT more, if it stayed warmer longer.
