Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Air-O-Swiss AOS Ultrasonic Humidifier - 7135Customer Review: I ultimately decided on Venta-Sonic VS 207 instead Summary: 4 Stars
This is a well built and attractively styled machine. I didn't want to, but after owning both units for several weeks, I ultimately returned my AOS 7135 and opted for the similarly priced and equipped Venta-Sonic VS 207 instead.
Here are my reasons:
1. My AOS consistently reported humidity levels at least 10% lower than my Taylor HumidiGuide operating in the same location. In a small room it overhumidified when set to 50%, and raised humidity to well above 50% when set to its lowest setting of 40%. This was a problem with the store display model as well.
2. Both the AOS 7135 and the Venta VS 207 employ electric fans to distribute humidified air and therefore do generate some noise. I can hear the AOS from across my quiet suburban bedroom, though even soft background noise such as urban street sounds or a running furnace will render it inaudible.
Both units also generates periodic gurgling sounds as air enters the water chamber through the valve which admits water to the humidifier base. The AOS is a very quiet machine, but I find the Venta VS 207 significantly quieter.
3. The AOS 7135 can be programmed for output level, target humidity, timer, warm/cool, and sleep and auto modes. However, all of these settings are lost whenever the unit is powered off with its on/off switch. When powered back on, it reverts to its "auto" mode. Under these conditions the Venta VS 207 retains all settings except its output level; this is much more convenient.

Customer Review: Good alternative to other models Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this product for a few months now and it's used in my son's room. I also use a German-made humidifier in another room that uses UV rays to kill germs. I like both products. Here are some of my thoughts:
- I don't particularly like the complexity of the controls. This model has a % gauge, level adjustment, heat on/off, etc. that just makes it a little complicated as everytime I turn it on I have to make adjustments: I like to set it on Heat OFF (on for the winter), level low (it's on during the night), and 55% humidity. I would have preferred an on/off switch and dials for adjustments rather than a digital display.
- It has a silver ion water filter that I don't know how long it will last and another little silver band on the inside that, I think, is supposed to filter out bacteria. What's interesting is that I periodically get a notice light that says to clean the unit. When opened, it does have little slimy particles that I think might be dust and bacteria. I prefer UV light to kill germs as it doesn't require a filter.
- It's relatively easy to clean; just open up the top and rinse out the water. It also has a handy brush used to clean the more dirtier areas. This unit doesn't get as dirty as my other UV unit.
All-in-all I recommend this product. It is a well-made, easy to clean and effective humidifier with some nice features: heat, brush, and silver ion filter. I actually prefer it to my German UV humidifier as it is a pain to clean.
Customer Review: top notch humidifier Summary: 5 Stars
I also purchased the Air-O-Swiss 7135 after first buying the Vent Sonic which appeared to be a knock off of another Air-O-Swiss model 7133 that Bed Bath and Beyond no longer carries. The AOS eloctronic humidifier is more than I needed but the cheaper manual (knobs) wasn't available. I thought the Venta Sonic was in fact the manual model of the AOS and bought it as it looked similar to the pictures of the 7133 model. When i opened the package I realized right away that this was not worth $99 and reading through the one page instructions found that it was not the AOS. It is pretty cheaply made and did not generate much mist and the fan could barely get the mist more than a foot from the nozzle. A big problem was that the Vent Sonic unit splashed so much water under the container that water leaked out between the base and the container leaving a puddle in just 30 minutes. I took the Venta Sonic back and bought the AOS 7135 which has an electronic buttons to regulate the fan and moisture. What is great is that you can set the percentage humidity and the unit will reach that amount and stop sending mist. It also shows the current humidity level. Since the main purpose of a humidifier is to add humidity to the air but not make it like a rain forest the electronic info is very usefull. The AOS 7135 works like a dream even though it is pretty pricey but a full nights sleep every night is worth an awful lot. It is extremely wel made and designed. While it is $149 there are discounts available from BB&B for 20%.
Customer Review: Yet another crappy humidifier Summary: 1 Stars
I've been looking for a decent humidifier for a while now and I've always had bad luck. After going through several different brands and being disappointed I decided to spend a bit more and get this unit based on the good reviews. I got it home and was initially impressed by the machine's output and the digital readout on the front. I left it on and waited for it to reach the desired humidity of 50%. And I waited. And waited. After a week of running it near constantly the humidity in my bedroom never managed to get above 35% and the air felt just as dry as always. As far as I could tell, the unit did nothing but spit out mist with no other noticeable effect. So I tried moving it into my office to see if maybe it would perform better in a smaller room. It did. After a while I got it to reach 50%. I took it back into my bedroom and once again, the readout remained under 30% and the air remained dry. Apparantly my bedroom, which is only 180 square feet, is too big for this unit to handle. Strange since the stats claim it can humidify an area up to 600 sq ft. Then to top things off, after three weeks the unit began coating my bedroom with white dust! The filter is supposed to last 2-3 months and mine needed replacing after less than one! And those filters cost $20 at the store! $170 for a humidifier that doesn't humidify and an estimated $250 a year to maintain it is not my idea of a good deal. I packed it up, took it back to the store and got a refund. This product is not recommended.
Customer Review: White Dust Problem Solved - Very Good Humidifier Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned several humidifiers including three ultrasonic models from different manufacturers. If you have hard water and no filtration unit on your ultrasonic humidifier you will ALWAYS get white dust.
With this humidifier, I also bought the Brita disposable water faucet purifier (I got it on Amazon). The manual says that if you use filtered water you should not use the included filtration unit that fits inside the water tank. I followed that instruction the first night and found that we still had white dust from the ultrasonic system.
Now I use water that has been filtered through the Brita and I ALSO use the filtration unit that came with the humidifier. Voila: NO WHITE DUST!
Seriously, none. As long as you use filtered water along with the "in-tank" water filter you will solve this problem.
As far as the actual humidifier goes, here are the pro's:
- Large water capacity in an attractive unit.
- QUIET QUIET QUIET!!!
- You can set the intensity of humidity being pumped into the room to achieve the level you set. This is handy if you want it to get more humid more quickly, or if you can let it work at a more leisurely pace.
- It switches from cool mist to warm mist at the touch of a button. You just have to wait around 10 minutes to let it warm up to the 140 F temp inside for the mist to come out warm.
- The ultrasonic feature makes the warm mist more sanitary than a regular warm mist humidifier.
