Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Air-O-Swiss AOS Ultrasonic Humidifier - 7135

Customer Review: The Air O Swiss 7135 is one the worst expensive investments I've made.
Summary: 1 Stars

The Air O Swiss 7135 is one of the worst expensive invesments I've made. I purchased one last fall to have in the room with my newborn baby. The reviews I read were great except for the fact that some users were experiencing a white dust residue on surfaces from use depending on your water type. I felt comfortable after I read one review from a person in the same city as me that had no problems with this issue so I pruchased it. I used it from October to March and within that time period the white residue ruined the circuit board in my plasma tv and also my x-box. The unit was not close to these items, but was in the same room and I had the white dust everywhere. I cleaned the unit every 1 1/2 weeks and the water was refilled everyday because I used it regularly. I began to really wonder if this dust was safe for my baby because there was so much. At times you could come in the room on a sunny day and it would appear to be hazy inside. It did keep the room humidified but it left that white dust in cracks and crevices you would not imagine. Even my new laptop had white dust inside the disc drive, and my closet had louvered doors and it even got in there. The season has come again where I will need a humidifier but I have no idea what I will use because I thought I purchased the best one. I probably could have used distilled water as some people recommended but that would have been too costly considering I filled it every 18 hours. And besides that the signature "Demineralization Cartridge" filter was supposed to eliminate that. It was worthless. Would not recommend this product to anyone who has the slightest bit of hard water because you will get dust.

Customer Review: Mixed feelings.
Summary: 3 Stars

I'd love to give this unit more than three stars because I like almost everything about it. It humidifies really well. I can really tell the difference in humidity level after even 1 hour in my bedroom. Much better than the evaporative humidifier I used to have. I think the humidistat works well, it's very easy to use and I like how it can have a sleep mode, it has variable "humidifying levels" that allow the user to adjust how much humidity is coming out, better than just a fan speed adjustment.

The thing is practically invisible to the ear. The occasional trickle of water but otherwise silent as the tomb. The tank, while not complicated to fill, is not the best design I've seen. Yes, you have to flip it upside down, but that's fairly typical of tabletop humidifiers I believe; at least it is of the ones I have owned.

However, my biggest problem with this humidifier is the white dust it spews EVERYWHERE! I don't know if it's because I have softened water at my house, but my whole bedroom is coated in this white dust. It gets everywhere! And I am using there demineralization cartridge and still have the problem. I called their tech support, which was very difficult to do, and they were of no help. Just "that's why ultrasonic humidifiers are unpopular" was their response!! What sort of response is that??

So, unless I buy distilled water to use in this thing, which would be a rather ridiculous expense, I have to deal with the dust. So, it looks like I'll have to sacrifice the quiet operation of a warm mist humidifier for a noisy evaporative cooler.

Customer Review: Best humidifier!
Summary: 5 Stars

We started using this humidifier after Christmas, when the house started getting dry. At first we used it downstairs in the family area and you could definitely notice a difference when it was running and when it wasn't.

Then, when my son got sick, we moved it up to his room, which is where it was always intended to be as he has asthma. The humidifier did its job! From the first night we had it running in there, he stopped coughing through the night. It's been WONDERFUL!!!

The unit is extremely easy to use. Refilling it is no different than refilling any other humidier, and just as easy. The cleaning light pops on every week as a reminder to take the brush out and clean it. With my being so busy with the kids, it's a nice reminder to have!

I love the fact that when it runs, the air doesn't feel 'thick' and the room's temperature doesn't rise. That was a concern of mine b/c I didn't want the thermostat in my son's room to stop running b/c it thought the room was falsely warmer than it really was.

One of the best things about this unit is that the tank lasts about 12hrs, sometimes a little longer. I love this b/c I know that if I fill it right before he goes to bed, I won't have to worry about it running out and the humidity coming down while he's sleeping.

We have had absolutely no problems with this unit!!! I have been so thrilled with it that I plan on buying one for my daughter's room. It's definitely worth its weight in gold for those of us with asthmatic kids, prone to coughing during the night!!!!!

Customer Review: Very disappointing - what a waste of money
Summary: 1 Stars

I researched this humidifier extensively and it seemed to be one of the very best, many positive consumer ratings on numerous websites. I loved that it went to so much effort to achieve especially clean water output. And there were so many digital options that seemed great to have as well. But what good is any of that when it only worked well for a single year. I was a very diligent humidifier user too - cleaning it properly according to the manual, making sure to replace the things that need replacing. It was annoying to continuously have to take care of the machine, cleaning the inside compartment the best I could, and dishing out all the money for the expensive replacement parts that it needed for its normal 2-3 month maintenance issues. But I kept thinking at least its worthwhile - it works so well...Not for long! The second year the mist output was next to nothing, the dirty water sign was always flashing so I had to clean it every other day, and worst of all the circular "membrane" was so delicate that I accidentally damaged it in a routine cleaning - and as far as I know its not replaceable. (Although even if it was replaceable I refuse to spend one more penny on this money pit of a machine) I wish I had chosen a different brand altogether. Its very irritating that Air-O-Swiss passes themselves off as such high quality when their machines are just bound to break because they are so delicate and hard to clean effectively. If you want to waste a lot of money and time on a product that will only last a very short time this is the product for you.

Customer Review: Excellent product
Summary: 4 Stars

I've now used my new humidifier for a couple of weeks and the product is working well. I have it placed in our kitchen which is quite large (500sf or so with 9' ceiling) within a 5,000 sf home. My wife works from home at the kitchen table and had been complaining about some sinus issues during the winter months. After conducting extensive research, I decided to purchase this product and it does the trick. Breathing is noticeably better for both of us and my skin and lips aren't so dry anymore. Sometimes I'll forget to turn the unit on and will notice a difference in the breathing. I like the ability to switch from warm to cold mist and the flexibility to vary the mist output from the product. It does go through quite a bit of water (which is probably good since that water goes into the air) and I find that a full tank will take me through most of the day (I have been running it just over mid-way on the output dial). Thank-fully, it is easy to re-fill and I'm not experiencing any of the white dust I've read on some other reviews. Our water is town-provided and we don't use a water softener.

We have had humidifiers in the past (both central and portable) and the experiences have not been great. With this new home, I was hoping to avoid getting one again (I just put in new furnaces and decided to pass on a central humidifier because of the issues with mold, etc...). I must say that this unit is a welcome addition to the house. Because of our experience with this model, I have now decided to buy a second unit for our bed-room.
