Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Air-O-Swiss AOS Ultrasonic Humidifier - 7135Customer Review: The seller of this product (factory direct) is a liar Summary: 1 Stars
For this product, I can't say how it works, cause the one I got is a broken one, and there is even no manual/documents inside the box. Then in the following 2 weeks, I keep writing to the seller, I just got their call back once, after following her instruction, the humidifier still not working, and then she ask me to ship it back for repair, on my own shipping cost. I ordered a brand new and got sth like this, why should I responsible for the cost to send their trash back? And why should I got a repaired one instead of a brand new one? After I ask them to cover the cost to ship back, they said they gonna call me back, then, never call back again.
I have to go to A-to-Z protection plan (thanks Amazon to have this protection program), and give the seller "1 start" rating. To my surprise, this time the seller response immediately. What I can't believe is the seller blindly lying that their product is in good condition (even that lady called me agree the product was broken and ask me send back to repair), and said that I refuse to communicate with them. I've sent them 8 emails in past 2 weeks, only got one call back, and then never have the further follow up, who is the one refuse to communicate?? Guess they just take the advantage that once we submit the rate, we can't reply to whatever their comments, so they can just blindly lying whatever they like, and keep fooling other customers.
Maybe the humidifier is not bad, but the seller is the worst one I ever seen.
Customer Review: Hard water makes cleaning a necessity Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this humidifier for my bedroom. For the price, I was a little disappointed in the frequency of refill (I have to refill every 8-12 hours right now on dry winter days) especially since the sales person I spoke with said it would last at least 24 hours. I will note that on rainy days when there is more moisture in the air the unit will go 24 hours without refill.
Also, I have hard water and the membrane gets clogged easily; I have to soak in vinegar per the directions for a few hours to thoroughly clean it to get a strong mist. You really have to pay note to the little clean light that comes on; cleaning when it tells you to makes it less difficult to remove the hard water residue on the membrane.
Lastly, the unit *has* to be placed off the floor; otherwise it will soak your carpet. I wasn't expecting on having to find a higher elevation in my bedroom to place the humidifier. I have a loft in my bedroom so I let it run over the ledge, which works well.
Despite the frequency of refill and the cleaning, I must note that I do agree with the other reviews; it is a great system and I really like it. It is extremely quiet which is wonderful for the bedroom and it's easy to control with the user-friendly digital screen. I too use the sleep and auto functions for sleeping.
I only give it 4 stars because I just expected it to be more "self-sufficient" for the price, compared with less expensive humdifiers.
Customer Review: You're taking a gamble if you buy this - a gamble with bad odds! Summary: 1 Stars
The options and high consumer magazine rations for this humidifier, as well as it's purported 650 sq ft effective area, seemed to make it the absolute best option for my 600 sq ft Minnesota apartment. After two faulty units, however, I'm confident in saying the high price tag does not guarantee quality in the product.
The first unit I purchased at a retail store put out steam terrifically and definitely raised the humidity in my apartment according to a separate hygrometer, but the humidity reading on the unit never changed, meaning that it would never shut it self off when the appropriate humidity level was reached. Based on other reviews on this site, it sounds like this problem is extremely common. Calling Air-O-Swiss, they had me test the instrument by putting a warm, wet cloth over the hygrometer opening, but the reading didn't budge and they wanted me to send it in for warranty repair. Fat chance I was going to pay to ship it and wait forever to get it back - I exchanged it at the store for another unit.
The new humidifier hasn't output mist since I turned it on - the nebulizer function is DOA. With a 24 hr waiting period for the demineralization cartridge to soak before you can test the humidifier, there is no way I'm going to exchange it for another unit, wait a day, and hope it works OK. I recommend you don't waste your time in the first place; the quality of these is inconsistent at best, but more likely consistently defective.
Customer Review: Best humidifier out there Summary: 5 Stars
I was sitting in my daughter's room tonight looking over at the humidifier and thinking, I should review that thing because it is so stinking great. We have had this humidifier for nearly 2 years and I cannot say enough good things about it. It has a warm and cool mist function which I remember when researching these things, is hard to find. Even when using the warm mist, the vapor is not so hot that it is dangerous which is good since this is in my kids' rooms most often. It is very quiet when running, you don't really notice it is there. Very noteworthy is the fact that if you use either distilled water or reverse osmosis water (cheap in jugs at the grocery store), you can chuck that clunky filter thing in the trash. One less thing to spend money on replacing. Once you do that, the only part you ever have to replace is the silver ion stick. I learned that by reading the owner's manual when I bought it.....it is sort of funny because that little tip is not advertised heavily in the manual, but it is in there. And trust me, I have used the R/O water with it for 2 years and never had a problem. (Just be sure that you never use tap water without the filter). The other benefit to that is you don't have to use the special cleaner stuff either. I just make sure to dry it out well, very low maintenance. The humidistat works great, and I love that you can change the vapor flow rate. Thinking of buying another one of these. Love love love it.
Customer Review: A Winner! Summary: 5 Stars
I, too, checked out several humidifiers before purchasing--I read the reviews posted here prior to Jan. '07, and then I went to several stores to check out various brands. The only one I saw actually working in the store is the Air-O-Swiss, and the salesman answered all my questions confirming what I had read about the Air-O-Swiss. So I came home, bought 2 of them on line, and I think they're great!
My NYC apartment is about 1600 sq.', so one humidifier is not enough. I use one in the living room/dining room area (thanks to some doors I can close off that space), and the second one I use at night in the master bedroom (also closed off with a door). I sometimes transfer the bedroom humidifier to the kitchen during the day if I'm working in the kitchen area. Even when full of water, the humidifier is easy to carry (and I have a somewhat weak back).
Favorite features:
--the built-in mechanism for adjusting output and the digital read-out which tells us by number what level the humidity has reached
--ease of cleaning and transporting, anti-bacterial cartridge and wand. Note: the anti-bacterial devices can only go so far. I don't let water sit in the machines (and that's a precaution I would take with any humidifier). After each 8-hour cycle I rinse them out (top and bottom) with fresh cold water. They are very easy to maintain.
Good luck making your choice!
