We like it and are glad we purchased it. The only problem is that even with using their mineral disolver, we still get a small amount of white powder on items that are close to where the mist comes out of the humidifier. However, on the other hand, it is easy to wipe away powder that is noticeable. Secondly, when you buy it, you are also married to the products used to demineralize the spray as well as the chemical they sell to decalcify the parts in the lower chamber of the unit. The manual reads that if you use anything other than their brand of demineralizers, it voids the warrenty and you're on your own if it doesn't work properly after that.
However, all these appliances are a pain in the neck to clean and keep clean. There just isn't one on the market that is self cleaning. We've owned many different brands before making this purchase. So even with all these constraints, it's better than any other cool mist humidifier and I recommend buying it.

Bought this humidifier after reading all the review about it. It lived up to its positive rep. Had the unit about two weeks and its worked great. Winter always is dry where I live and this year I havent woken up with a head ache from it being so dry. The unit is very quiet, only the fan on the bottom makes a hum, and at half fan setting a tank of water lasts all night and most of the day.
Seemed to be some confusion in some of the other reviews as to what the double dials are for so Ill elaborate. Bottom dial controls the fan and how much vapor is blown out of the unit. The top dial controls how humid the unit makes the room. It senses when the room has reached that humidity and cuts the vaporizer. The other day with the door closed to the room I noticed that the unit was on but nothing was coming out and I turned the top dial and it kicked back in again so it does work.
If you're thinking of buying a humidifier, this is your one.
Customer Review: Could not get rid of the white powder

Does it pump out the mist? Yup. Does it run fairly quiet? Yup. Does it pump out white powder all over my plastics or electronics (anything with a little bit of a static charge) Yup.
I couldn't get this unit to stop producing this white powder that drifts in the air and attaches itself to my suit bags, photo printer, television, etc...
Air-O-Swiss recommends using filters or bottled water if you are getting this mist...really?
I thought...maybe because my water is so bad I have to replace the filter in the unit more frequently...bought a 3 pack and started replacing them every couple of weeks...nope still powder. Used the filtered water dispenser on my fridge to fill the container...nope still powder.
Very expensive unit with good mist performance, but expensive to own and a pain to keep it running while making a mess in the room you have it in and the rooms surrounding.
Customer Review: Only lasted one season - JUNK!

After owning this unit now for 2 years, I can safely proclaim this as junk!!
It only lasted one winter season. I cleaned it as instructed, and put it in storage.
Upon getting it out of storage for this season, I hydrated a new cartridge overnight
as instructed, filled the tank with water, attached the cartridge and turned it on;
Nothing!! waited 15 minutes, still nothing, waited 1 hour, still nothing!!
Took tank off and inspected everything, all parts were clean and in tact, replaced tank
and turned on again, still nothing!!
This is the SECOND Air-O-Swiss model I have owned (both over $100.00) and the first one
did exactly the same thing!!
So, I am warning all buyers in advance, this is junk, DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!!

Pros:
- produces enough moisture even for a large room
- compact and quiet
- pretty easy to use
Cons:
- tank is kinda small, on max setting last about 8 hours
- humidistat does not appear to work very well on my unit (not a big deal, i just use the mist control instead)
- kinda expensive to operate (it is energy efficient, but $40+ for silver stick and demoralization cartridge)
- filling the tank could be easier, there is no handle to hold it while filling, it does not stand well on its own upside down, also the condensation drips a little every time you remove it
I am pretty happy with the unit overall and would recommend it! Works much better than other units that I've used in the past.
