Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Aerolatte To Go, Milk Frother, Black

Customer Review: Flimsy and fragile
Summary: 2 Stars

Wow, what a disappointment.

I bought this frother at a local shop to replace a Bonjour Cafe Latte Frother which, while it was still working, had cracked due to a fall and required some twisting to get the batteries to make contact every time. Once the batteries on the Bonjour made contact, though, it still whizzed powerfully and made great frothed milk, even after 3 years.

I'd read such great reviews here on Amazon that I was enthused about the Aerolatte, but I'm afraid there's no comparison. The Bonjour (the one with the wavy disc at the bottom, Amazon ASIN B000TTQYHA, not the one with the coiled wire at the bottom) is solidly built, with a thick and sturdy stem that never bent. It also takes 4 batteries (we use Eneloop rechargeables), so it spins with twice as much power.

The Aerolatte is built like a typical generic frother with a thin, flimsy center stem. It rattled from day one. It started out making very good froth very quickly, just like the Bonjour. But now, about 40 days since I purchased it, the central stem is slightly warped or bent, despite very careful use and storage in the travel case. So now we have to switch it on, use our fingers to coax the stem into the center position, and hold it just so... in the hopes that it'll spin fast enough to whip up some foam. And it rattles so loudly now, it sounds like it's about to fall apart.

I'm going to buy another Bonjour Cafe Latte Frother to replace this, because after less than 2 months our Aerolatte is already on it's way out.

If you're looking for a non-battery-powered frother, we've also had the Bodum Shin Bistro 4-Ounce Milk Frother, which makes very nice froth as well. But the disadvantages of that one are that all the extra cleanup takes more time and effort, and you have to handle it carefully so as not to burn your hand.

Customer Review: Works great, but quality?
Summary: 4 Stars

A friend gave me one of these a couple years ago. It worked great to make loads of foam for morning lattes. I also used it for foaming milk for hot chocolate, etc.

I used it an average of five days a week, and I was very careful with it. It quit working about a month ago, and I opened up the plastic housing to see if a connection was loose or something. Couldn't find anything I could fix, though. I love the idea of the frother, and I checked out reviews of various brands. Most people liked this one the best, so I ordered another. Got the new one very quickly, but I'm disappointed that the housing now will not open for service. No screws, just molded together.
I guess I get really frustrated with the 'make it cheap and throw it away' mentality. I hate waste and one shouldn't have to trash something that just needs a small part. That wastes resources, fills up landfills, and adds more pollution to our planet. I'd give it a five if it lasted longer and had replaceable parts.

Addition in May: the batteries were supposed to last for an average of 150 uses. I used the frother about five times a week for less than three months. So maybe 60 uses? The first one I got was about the same for the batteries. Now using rechargeable ones, and they work very well

Customer Review: Long time multiple aerolatte user
Summary: 5 Stars

I was given my first aerolatte about 6 years ago - liked it so much i immediately bought another (e-bay) for use at the office. My Doctor does not allow me to have any coffee at all, but I needed a stirrer to mix my protein powder into my milk without making lumps. They both worked perfectly, lasting about 6 years, then inexplicably died! Both of them, within a month of each other!! I can't get along without them, so I ordered two new replacements through Amazon. They also work perfectly. So far it's 4 for 4 with no problems (I expect them to wear out eventually but it's great knowing i can quickly, conveniently cheaply replace them here) I found the batteries last longer and provide more power, and are rechargeable, if you use Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables - performance is better than alkalines, and WAY better than regular NiMH. Eneloops are available on Amazon at about $7 for a 6 AA pack. My only negative was a quick learning experience when I first got it: submerge the whisk, THEN turn it on! Failure to do so will spray-paint you, the counter-top, the walls, the kid, the cat, and anything else within about 12 feet. You only do that ONCE...

Aerolatte To Go, Black

I used one of these when I visited my daughter and loved it so we ordered it on line so it would be waiting when I returned home. I have been very disappointed in the one I got. The cover for the battery compartment does not fit on tight. It seems like the batteries are too long. As a result, in order for it to work, I have to push down on the battery cover to get a connection with the batteries and then push the button on. It is very awkward. I bought it for my grandchildren (7 and 9) to use and it is too difficult. I did not have this problem with the one I used first so I wonder if mine is defective. Maybe I should have purchased the more expensive one but I was ordering the one I had used. Who knows. It is fun to see hot chocolate stirred so completely so quickly though.

Customer Review: Great frother!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great little frother and works very well. My only real concern is the construction of the motor housing unit. The frothing coil and stem are study metal, but the motor unit is plastic. It needs to be treated gently because it doesn't seem terribly sturdy (which is why I didn't give it 5 stars.) I just store it in its case so it won't get bumped in the kitchen. The carrying case is also very handy if you want to travel with it.

However, the Aerolatte does exactly what it says and makes great froth. Be aware that according to Aerolatte's website, you should either froth very cold milk or milk that is very warm (but has not boiled). They specifically say that room temp milk does not froth well. I heat mine in the microwave for about 30 seconds until it is very warm and then froth it. Then I pour coffee into it to make a delicious cappuccino. Yum!
