Customer Review: Great kettle - Until it cracked

We bought this kettle about 9 months ago to replace a metal tea kettle that I had owned for about 4 years but had become rusty. I had noticed similar issues to those mentioned in other reviews: the lid falls off, kettle gets very hot, etc... but none of this had bothered me because they seemed like small issues when compared with my overall happiness with the product. The design is beautiful, I don't mind that it does not whistle, I love being able to see the water boil through the clear glass, and the purity of the glass, as opposed to metal or anything with a plastic lid was very appealing. Until about 2 days ago, I had recommended this kettle to everyone I knew. Unfortunately, while boiling water just the other day, a crack appeared in the bottom of the kettle. I do not feel we have mis-treated the kettle at all, we haven't allowed the water to get so hot it boils away, we clean it regularly and we take care not to bang it on the stove or bump it against anything. The kettle still holds water, and does not seem to drip, but I feel that to use it at this point, with the crack going across the bottom, would be dangerous. It could crack more, or possibly shatter. I contacted Amazon about this, feeling that even though it is past the 30-day return date, there should be some sort of assistance with a defective item. Amazon informed me there was nothing they could do and that I should contact the manufacturer directly. When I contacted Adagio via email, I was told that there was nothing they could do because it was beyond the 'the time in which it may be complimentary replaced', and the suggestion was given that I purchase a new kettle from them. I find this to be absolutely unacceptable and I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone purchase items from this company.
