Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Adagio Teas 16-Ounce Ingenuitea TeapotCustomer Review: changed my life! Summary: 5 Stars
This little gadget has changed my life. I know it sounds hokey, but it's true... I got one for Christmas, 2009 along with a variety of teas and now I'm drinking tea at least twice a day. I love going to the drawer and deciding which tea to try next- I literally feel like a kid in a candy store. It's definitely a gift that has kept giving. I now have over 60 varieties of tea in my stash and I can't stop adding more. I've also discovered that drinking so much tea means I eat a lot less, so I've lost weight. An added, unexpected benefit!
The IngenuiTEA was a great introduction to the world of loose tea. It's very easy to use and master and I'll never go back to bagged teas again, especially after tasting the difference between freshly brewed tea and tea made with a bag. I truly think the fact that the tea leaves can circulate and swirl around in the water as the tea brews makes all the difference in taste. That's why I always come back to the IngenuiTEA after trying other diffusers.
I know people have different methods for using the IngenuiTEA, but here's mine: I measure out one-two teaspoons of tea (depending on type of teas- watch out with Ceylon teas, they are strong and get bitter fast!) into the body of the Ingenuitea, and then I pour two cups of boiling water into the device and wait 2-3 minutes. Then I simply hold the IngenuiTEA over my teacup (or mug) and the IngenuiTEA works like a tiny coffee pot- the brewed tea flows down into the cup, leaving the tea leaves in the device.
It holds two cups of water, which makes one large cup/mug of tea. I always use one-two teaspoons of tea per brew, a little more or less depending on the tea I am using or the flavor I want. After I am done, I simply rinse in the sink, adding a drop of dish soap if I've used a strong flavor of tea. Every so often I'll throw it in the dishwasher and all the stains come right out and it's fresh again.
One mistake I made in the beginning was overbrewing my tea- I thought if I left the tea leaves brewing for twice as long, the tea would be stronger. Don't do this because the tea gets bitter after even a few moments too long. The teas all brew up VERY flavorful and strong with the two teaspoons/two cups/three minutes formula.
My only issue with this gadget is that the little filter *does* float up from time to time, but when I pour water in, I just stick a spoon or knife and hold the filter down. It would be nice if the filter screwed or "popped" into place. Just pour your water in gently.
I love this device. It's simple to use, fun (I really do have a lot of fun picking out which tea to drink, mixing flavors, and choosing even *more* tea to buy), and a gift that really does keep giving. You're not just getting/giving a gadget with the IngenuiTEA, you're getting/giving a ritual of comfort and happiness.
Here's a hint- go to adagio DOT com and click on the "gifts" tab and you can get the pot as well as several samples of Adagio's loose tea (choose between several flavor packs) for $19. I would recommend this, especially if you are sending this as a gift :) It will inspire the recipient to brew tea immediately!
