Customer Review: Great results but hard to clean

With not having much experience with buying humidifiers, I purchased this one based on some online research and with the help of user reviews. I was very worried about the noise factor that comes with having a cool mist humidifier but this one passes with flying colors. I'm a very light sleeper and require almost total silence in order to fall asleep. I can't even tell that this machine is in the same room! I love the fact that it can be switched from cool to warm mist at the press of a button and that I can control the amount of mist and how fast or slow it comes out. The only downfall that I've experienced is how difficult it is to keep clean. The still water that sits in the unit's base will have a black build up. This same build up is located at the base of the blue, water-holding section, as well as the tube and attachment the mist comes out of. The machine comes with a small brush, which does not do the job. By running pressurized water over the build up and using a long tubular bristle brush I can get the unit semi-clean. The style of the unit is great. However once powered, the emitted mist caused the gas burner flames on the stove that is 50 feet away from the humidifier, and the gas pilot on the fireplace unit that is about 60 feet away, to change from the usual blue flame to an intense orange flame. The gas company utility checked my gas service and found it to be without problems. The next step of removing the Humidifier from service and airing out the house caused the gas flames to return to blue. Restarting the humidifier caused the orange flame to re-occur. Removing the humidifier again and the blue flames returned after again airing the house. I finally gave the unit to someone that cooks with electricity and does not have open flames/pilots in the house. The gas utility service technician confirmed that they had seen the same conditions when a ultrasonic humidifier is used. A non-ultrasonic unit does not provide the same results as the ultrasonic. I am now using a non-ultrasonic humidifier and there are not any orange flames.Customer Review: Humidifier Bling

I am very happy with this purchase. I can't imagine another unit outperforming this one.
Pros:
1)High design; the prettiest, sleekest humidifier you'll find. Everyone who sees it compliments me on it and it's become a very popular acquisition.
2)High output: produces a thick, steady stream of humidity. When on highest setting, outpaces volume of other cheaper units.
3)Great customer service: I had a hairline fracture in the water tank and the Air-O-Swiss folks replaced it within days; it was very fast service and completely hassle free.
Cons:
1)After 2 weeks, I discovered a fracture in the water tank causing water to leak out onto the table.
2)No hygrometer/hygrostat display so there's no way to know for sure what degree of dryness you need to compensate for.
3)Water tank is a little on the small side and needs to be refilled often - Very often if highest volume setting is used.

I've tried a number of humidifiers over the years, and this is by far the best. It is a good size for a bedroom. I use it every night and for an hour or so during my son's nap each day, and I end up refilling the tank every day or so, depending on how dry the air is. I wouldn't want to leave the water sitting in there any longer, anyway. I like the smaller-sized water reservoir, as it's not too heavy when filled and it fits easily under the bath tap. The controls are easy to understand and use. I like being able to see and direct the mist. I like its thermostat and auto-shutoff. I like that it can deliver either warm mist or cool mist. I haven't had any problems with leaks or soaking the floor, as mentioned in another review. I have it on top of a chest of drawers, with a cloth placemat underneath it. I like that it tells you when it needs cleaning. It is expensive, but I don't regret the purchase and would recommend this item.Customer Review: Not durable

I bought this unit last winter but by the end of the season, it was well on it's way to the grave. Despite low usage due to the fact that I only used it at night, the unit shows quite a bit of damage around the ultrasonic transducer. The gasket around the transducer has swelled up or become detached from its moorings on one side. Also, the paint on the metal collar around the transducer has bubbled up. I guess it can't withstand the supercavitation produced by an ultrasonic humidifier. Of course, this problem could have been avoided if Air-O-Swiss had simply not set the transducer so far beneath the plane of the surface of the unit.
While it worked, it was an excellent humidifier and better than units that I had before. But considering that this model was very high cost and has been much less durable than my cheap Sunbeam humidifier, I would recommend people get something else.
