The actual product is a little nicer than the garish photo would indicate. It's better quality plastic than I imagined (had low-ish expectations, again due to ugly photo), by which I mean it does everything it's supposed to and nothing it's not. So the plastic doesn't stain, doesn't smell (despite me sometimes leaving veggies in too long), cleans very nicely, doesn't crack when I crank the pressure all the way up.
Only minor complaint is it's a bit too big. Fitting in fridge is not a problem but finding enough vegetables to pickle is a challenge. You'd have to eat a lot of the same thing over the next few days. But this is part of the product description to begin with so it's just a heads up to potential buyers, not a real complaint.
Oh and as a bonus it comes with a few pickling recipes in Japanese. They look pretty good, better than what random googling can find you, but you'd have to understand Japanese.
