Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of 12C BLK CoffeemakerCustomer Review: How hard can it be? Summary: 1 Stars
All it takes is to heat water and drip it over my good fragrant coffee grounds. Why is that so hard? I don't need programmable options or anything fancy. I just want to be able to make coffee BEFORE I've had any coffee, no muss or fuss, and to start my day with the steam rising from my mug. Without needing a bucket and mop to deal with the process.
This coffeemaker is inexpensive, looks good, the water levels are easy to see, and the handle on the pot is easy to grip (refer to the fact that I'm making coffee BEFORE I've had coffee). There the good points end, unfortunately.
Here are the things I don't like about this Mr. Coffee coffeemaker:
* The top is too big; to open it and pour water in, I need to pull it to the front edge of the counter.
* You have to rotate the water spout away to get the basket in and out. Closing the lid pushed the spout back in place. Too gadgety, and taking it on faith is psychologically uncomfortable somehow. It's kind of like the refrigerator light - does it REALLY go off when you shut the door?
* There are holes in the back of the water reservoir, so pour VERY carefully or else have that mop handy. What's up with the holes?
* If the holes are to let the residual moisture out, they don't work. If I open the top hours after the pot's been turned off, it's still all drippy inside. What's growing in there, I wonder?
* Pause 'n Serve? I don't think so! It just keeps dripping. What a mess.
* Pouring lips on carafes -- not a new idea, guys. Why can't you make THIS work at least? You have to pour over the sink or else the coffee will be everywhere.
There's something so satisfying about good, simple design elements. Sorry, but you won't find them here. Next time I'll make a better-considered purchase.
