I purchased a cookware set from Vollrath at a Trade Fair several years ago. The price was pretty high for a set, which included the 12" skillet. This set did not meet my expectations at all. Though the demonstrator claimed the non-stick finish was almost indestructible, and couldn't be harmed by metal utensils, I found it to be as delicate as any silverstone type non-stick finish. (I didn't use metal utensils) My biggest disappointment was in the exterior. After a few months, the grey 'paint' started flaking off. At this point, I called Vollrath, which offered a pretty substantial warrantee. The guy had me send two representative pans and then did nothing for two years. I had to return to another trade fair to speak to the guy who sold it to me, and he intervened. After almost 3 years, I finally got a replacement on what they claimed was a defective outer coating. Guess what? These are doing the same thing. Any pan that I use regularly will chip and flake on the outside. I'm a pretty careful person and have Wearever skillets that have not lost the color after 20 years, so this is a biggie for me. Also, I didn't like the cheap lids. For the price of these pans/skillets, it might have had a vent for steam, or a glass fitted top with a cool handle. Anyway, I'll never buy another Vollrath product.
