Customer Review: Great Cracker - Poor Base

The mechanical functionality of this cracker is great. It only took a few moments to figure out how it works, and I quickly became an efficient user.
My only negative comments are with the base, which is why I gave it 4 stars. The cracker arrived as one unit, wrapped in plastic, placed in packaging material, in a cardboard box. When I removed the wrapping, I discovered that a section of the wooden base, which holds one of the extra screws, had cracked and separated. Also, the cracking mechanism is design to be connected to the base using two screws, entering from the bottom of the base. In my unit, only one screw retains the base to the cracking mechanism. The center screw is not long enough to be inserted into the cracker mechanism. I'll have to either bore out the wooden bottom a bit, get a longer screw or make a brand new base.
Other than that, it is a great cracker and I'm keeping it. I use it to crack macadamia nuts, which have a very hard shell. They don't have a chance against the force generated by this cracker.
A safety note, when using, there is a possibility of shells flying all over the place. I recommend either wear safety glasses or placing a paper towel over the nut when cracking to prevent the shells from possibly hurting someone.
